New Pattern Acquisitions Today

I am an opportunist when it comes to pattern sales. I have found sometimes that it is cheaper and easier to buy pattern direct by passing local and interstate retailers. Especially when Club BMV have internet sales on current patterns or close outs on discontinued lines.

Today's new acquisitions for the pattern stash are:

My tailor often oohs and aahs at the patterns I bring her. She says to me that is $X.XX in the shops how do you get it at a good price.

A couple of tips I have for people out there. Join the Big Four's {Vogue, Butterick,McCAlls and Simplicity} email lists. You will get notified when they are having crazy sales, discontinued pattern close outs or just want to get rid of low stocks. Here from Australia our dollar is good against the green back. Keep a wish list of the pattern numbers you are interested in. So when you get notified of a sale buy 3 patterns at a time. You spread your cost of the postage between the 3 patterns. The most I have paid per pattern is about AUS$ 16 per pattern. So far I have over 50 patterns in my stash. Some of them are mundane clothes others are costumes.

Another tip to share. When you come to make up a pattern get some Kwik Trace or Poly Trace. If you buy your Poly Trace from a quilt store get sewing weight not paper weight. This way you can make your adjustments and sew up the copy. Your original paper pattern is intact and you can sell it off on Ebay, Etsy or Oznation. If you have other tips to share about pattern collecting please leave a comment at the end of this post.

Hi there,
I just received and email today from McCall's saying they have reviewed postage and handling charges. After much feedback about a recent price increase. McCall's have decided to reduce P&H rates to $15.00 for 1-3 patterns,$25 for 4-7 patterns and $55 for 8-15 patterns. [Rates in US Dollars].

Thought you would like to know.
