Tudor Smock is Finished

Hello to all my costuming friends,
I am so glad to have this project just finished and only needing the ties for the cuffs and collar.
I will buy some cordage to use as ties for the cuffs and collar. Once the pattern draft was made into a working pattern it was very quick to construct.

This smock has the under arm gore set in to the side gores. It gives a nice line and the over all fit is good. Thank you to Diamond for suggesting this design modification.

The lace on the cuffs and collar is hand made using bobbin lace techniques. The lace pattern is copied from a portrait of Lady Drake and was reinterpreted by Gill Dye. See my previous post on this lace: http://rosiesstuffnsew.blogspot.com/2008/06/elizabethan-ruff-lace.html

The embroidery on the cuffs and collar was done on my sewing machine with a polyester stabiliser. I found that using quilting gloves helped me have extra grip on the linen and the stabiliser layers while doing the machine embroidery.

I am really happy with my first attempt at a self drafted Tudor smock. I think my next one will be even better.

What's next? I guess at some stage I will make a Tudor kirtle to go over the top of my smock. I think I have some peach pink, yellow and blue linen in my stash. I will have to investigate that at some other stage.
