No this post is not about the little orange candy coated chocolate balls called JAFFAS! Rather, it is Jane Austen Festival Australia time in Canberra. This year's contribution to the festival by yours truly is a torchon lace demonstration and taster session. This year my students have a discussion about lace in the regency era. While the festival concentrates mainly on English fashions, we shouldn't forget that goods were also being imported/smuggled in too. Then we will have a go at making a simple piece of torchon lace. The project is a very simple one; as I do not know if any of the students have made lace before.
The lucky participants in my demonstration will be able to work a cloth lace book worm with beaded eyes. There will be four pillows for students to learn how to do cloth stitch. I hope my students will enjoy themselves.
Demonstration Day: Friday, 15th of March 2011
Time: 11am - 12:15pm
Where: Jane Austen Festival of Australia - Canberra.
